ABSTRACT
The Resource Based View (RBV) has made a major contribution to the field of strategy over the last thirty years. In spite of its growth in importance, the traditional RBV emphasizes the possession of VRIN resources as a sufficient condition for firms to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Barney later recognized that the firm may also play a role in creating any advantage, modifying VRIN to VRIO. However, this still did not clarify the characteristics of the firm that may also enable it to be better organized to draw upon its resources. In this dissertation, I focus on the firm’s experience and assess the extent to which it may contribute to its performance. I use data on the box office performance of project-based resources and firm-based experience on motion picture projects in Bollywood, one of the major centres of film production in India. As such, I investigate the extent to which benefits are embedded in the resources as opposed to being driven by the application of the firm’s experience to extract their value
