ABSTRACT:
The importance of global supply chains in the contemporary world economy has been increasingly recognized, making it a critical research topic to understand the drivers and impacts of global supply chain relations. My research aims to contribute to this area of research by presenting three main empirical paper that explore various aspects of global supply chain relations in depth. In the first project, we provide evidence that the formation of global supply chain partnerships leads to an increased usage of cross-border financing. This suggests improved access to global financial markets due to enhanced firm visibility and investor attention. In the second project, we investigate the influence of financial statement comparability on global supply chain relationships. Our findings indicate that non-U.S. firms are more likely to engage with U.S. firms when their financial statements align with industry peers in the U.S., shedding light on the role of financial statement comparability in shaping supply chain connections. In the third project, we explore the impact of political ideology on corporations' global sourcing strategies. We find that increasing ideological differences between firms and foreign governments can lead to decreased imports, emphasizing the significance of political alignment in shaping global sourcing decisions.
